Blood Flow Restriction Training at Grand Rapids Performance Center
Here at the Grand Rapids Performance Center, we are always looking at new and exciting evidence-based ways to help treat our patients. Personalized blood flow restriction (BFR) training is one of those ways. While BFR training is not new, it is something that has been gaining a lot of momentum in the health, wellness and fitness industries. BFR is a great tool that can be of benefit to many, if not all of the patients we see in a therapy setting.
Blood flow restriction training is just like it sounds, restriction of blood to the limb and decreasing the amount of blood that returns through the veins. That restriction of flow helps initiate the hormonal cascade responsible for muscle growth. BFR can be used with resistance training, or with other forms of exercise, including walking.
The main objective of BFR is muscle hypertrophy, or growth, with lower loads and less muscle damage than traditional methods.
