April Is Occupational Therapy Awareness Month!
This April we celebrate the discipline of Occupational Therapy and its role in our rehab team. Generation Care is proud to be one of the few locations on the lakeshore that has skilled occupational therapists as part of their team.
Occupational Therapy’s discipline is derived from the early use of daily occupations as forms of therapy. The term Occupy is defined as:
fill or preoccupy (the mind or thoughts).
“Her mind was occupied with alarming questions”
keep (someone) busy and active.
“Sarah occupied herself taking the coffee cups over to the sink
Our treatment approach incorporates the importance of maintaining engagement and independence with tasks that occupy your day. We address any type of limitations that may be causing issues with a person’s ability to engage in their daily occupations. This may range from decreased balance, low vision, poor memory, decreased use of your hands due to injury or arthritis, or decreased functioning following a neurologic event. For a child, Occupational Therapy may include feeding themselves, playing with their toys and interacting with friends. We work closely with our Physical Therapy team to help those who have undergone knee, hip or back surgeries to make sure that they are able to continue to complete their daily occupations while they recover. If you have a child that needs treatment, Generation Care offers Occupational Therapy services for both adult and pediatric patients.
If you have any questions about how Occupational Therapy might be able to you or your loved one please don’t hesitate to call one of our clinics to speak with one of our Occupational Therapy staff.
